about

One of the best kept secrets in Southern California, Lux Decay's five-part threnody "Sacred Excess" is the work of all four members of the perennially underrated Coltranes, whose "The Cat Of Nine Tails/Man With The Hat CS" was the first release to appear on Urge Records. Lux Decay finds our old friends metamorphosed, if not reconfigured. Still one of the most unique voices in punk, singer Spencer Heath has evolved his demented carnival bark into something resembling a maniacal preacherman leading an ill-omened revival. He sounds like he knows something we don't, and the news ain't good. In just sixteen minutes, the instrumentalists flesh his disquieting world out to a remarkably vivid degree. Opening with the most menacing use of acoustic guitar since Swans, and screeching to a halt with a venomously spat "fuck!", this EP is a grandiose procession of bleakness. It has the thrilling brevity of a poorly maintained rollercoaster, and that brevity is merciful, solely because repeated listens only further reveal the depth of dread at work here. To ask any more of them would be cruel, not to mention masochistic. - Urge Records

Lüx Decay California

"Hear it hum like a threnody-- that wicked chime of the clock.
Hollow chamber, I beg of thee!
Let this mystical hymn now play for another--
Only here, Forevermore…”
